Messaging through non-traditional means

Conditions:
Assumes there is a set of code phrases, or protocols in place. And that the person in question isn't completely off the grid.

There is always the chance that the code can be noticed, or broken. So risk assessment.

1. If the address of the person is unknown, they don't have a permanent address, or cannot be reached any other way.

A) Depending on what resources or connections someone has at one's disposal, a headline, or something on the front page of the local newspaper (Ads, etc). This would work well for major cities, or busy towns, reaching a wide audience and not easily missed. There isn't a need for any sort of prearranged meeting place, could be used in several different locations at once, but can run into problems such as language barriers. There is no guarantee that the location the one you wish to contact is at will have a paper in the language the message is run in. Or it might not be distributed. It also depends on said person reading the paper. Old fashioned, but it works.

B) Online forums. The mob using a cat owner site to place bet on racehorses? Been done before, at least in fiction. With an internet connection gained from any internet café, router, etc. messages could easily be passed back and forth. Anonymity is maintained, and location can be faked if someone knows how to reroute their I.P. as someone other person's. Leeching internet off someone else is pretty easy too, if it can down to it. There is however, a need for computer literacy, and perhaps some skill in programming or hacking depending on how they use this. Anything on the internet may not be erased though, there may be backups of conversations or posts left on a server which can later be retrieved.

C) Do something that attracts attention, and don’t get caught. The event will have to have your fingerprints all over it and nothing really specific will be sent across. Something along the lines of things are fine or don’t get involved.

2. If the person sending the message may not be able to personally do so (the In-case-of situation):

A) A prearranged drop. Through other people who will either receive a message giving them a go ahead for the delivery to a certain point, or a lack of message which has the same effect.

B) Pre-recorded messages. In voice mail, or an automatic email. Those who know what to look for will be able to figure out what's there and proceed onwards to get more information, or figure out a course of action.

C)A Dead man's switch*. Similar to A) but with an automated electronic message. There has to be some knowledge of software, though it's possible for someone else to program it. Though the more who know... Activation of this requires a "non-event". Something that fails to happen. Examples include not responding within a timeframe, not logging in, or even staying in one location for too long. Whether the information is sent to specific people, or just dumped out into an area for the public to see would vary with effect.

Also useful in terms of blackmail.

* Dog tags work the same way. So can certain specific tattoos. BUT NOT GOING INTO THAT.

3. Knowing there may be a need to split up and run (with a pre-planned meet up or not):

Missing the meet up, or going around to a prearranged area to pick up any messages that may have been left. Quick phonecalls leaving a location, as saying the other person should look into the drop point at {location}.

If you can think of any more, tell me, I would love to know!

I admit, my first thought was Ghost and Helena and sharing info about the Time Machine until he ended up in it. :D

Definitely them. I should write up her letter to Ghost about it, about the time machine and the warehouse and all.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS? Dammit, not I have this image of Ghost and HG using the time machine to share her body and kill people for profit.

Shall be tomorrow's writing at work then :D

HG eyes the warehouse at talk of bridges and sighs, wishing it would burn. I have way too many killers in my head.

Hehehe. It made me snicker. I'm so lame. Because they're fun!

I once put a disclaimer on an X-Men post using Brotherhood mutants that was like THIS IS ALL MAKE BELIEVE. I SWEAR. NO TERRORIST ACTS ARE ACTUALLY BEING COMMITTED.

What about online blogging then? Write a column for something mundane. Video game reviews, whatever, and it all be coded.

If you set it up that the person knew, write a real column under a pen name and they'd know what to take from it.

Or match real life places with the map. So meet me at the Oak Owl Tavern at midnight is the Seattle's best at 4th and Lex at noon :D

Whyfor? Use proxy servers to upload and a free hosting site to make the posts.

*innocent face*

I needed to get back to this talk. This day has been so insane.

That would be cool. UFO stories in Fate are actually spooks sharing info.

We were harassed from 9-5 at work, so 2 hours for me. Guy called so much, back to back, he screwed up our system until it nearly crashed. Then 1st shift gave us their paperwork and ditched and now all of this with the weather.

It explains so much!

I don't. They were told to do it but their supervisor is on vacation. So they pushed it off on us to keep from having to do it. Bastards.

I'm going home in 50 minutes! YAY me.

Work of the devil. After today? So believe that, except for not believing in the devil.

I wanted to leave it in the followup box for them tomorrow. None of it was for today. Manager shot me down. :D

30 minutes now. YAAAAY
Date/Time: 2011-06-23 02:40 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] ofthefirstwater.livejournal.com
And Jesus loves me but everyone else think I'm an arse?

Nope. Not with OUR manager. THEIRS lets them do that shit. We stay until we're done. Why I can't work first shift. I might commit a crime and massacre them.
Date/Time: 2011-06-23 04:45 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] loadedparadox.livejournal.com
But now I am home. And free until Friday.

YAY!
